June 14th-20th: Busy Week In the Studio!
What a CRAZY week this one has been-it seems like it only started, like….6 or 7 days ago!! 😂😂
Lets start this week’s blog out by talking about the SURPRISE show that we managed to pull off!! On Monday or Tuesday, I had gotten an offer to play in Ridgeway with Well Strung for an impromptu festival THIS WEEKEND. Unfortunately, due to the haste that was required for everyone to try and move their schedules around, we were unable to do so; however, my date was still open. So, I asked the booking agent if I could try my hand at booking my own band. He agreed, and passed along the contact. I called the gentleman, and after about 10 minutes of talking, the gentleman and I had become good friend. Surprisingly enough, he had seen Well Strung a number of places, and recognized me particularly. I told him what I had to offer, and he agreed to give it a go-if I could pull together a band. I made a few calls, passed on some details, and within 12 hours, I was able to put together a 4 piece band (including myself!) Crazy, right?
So, we get up to the location, which was at the Lazy River Canoe Rental in Ridgeway (btw, if you’re looking for something to do in Rodgeway, do this-Tim McClain owns the place, and does an awesome canoeing and kayaking tour down the Clarion River! Highly recommend!) and there’s maybe 120 people there, and they’re all listening to the artist before us, and when I say listening, I mean most of them were there for the music-very refreshing! We setup and played from 6-8, and had very good response! Thank you to everyone who came out and made this possible-it was a great feeling to be put back into the festival atmosphere again! We hope to get asked back again next year-if this becomes a yearly event! On a related note-while I was there, I got the chance to meet a guy (Matt?) who’s father taught Dave Rawlings how to play guitar back when Dave was in high school!! He told me a couple stories, and we share some laughs-what a great guy! Really cool moment.
Thursday and Friday were just as exciting! I had the pleasure of hosting the boys from The Millbillys, as we began the process of tracking the first record for the band! There will be more studio days to come, but we are all very excited about what the future holds for this project, and can’t wait to share more details with you! Unfortunately, at this early stage, there are too many variables to give a release date, but as soon as I know, you’ll know! 🙂
We’ll see you all next week!
